Identification
Small, dark brown to black ants around 1/8 inch long with no distinct markings, usually seen moving in dense trailing lines.
Habitat
Nest in shallow soil, under mulch and potted plants, and along foundations, then forage indoors for sugar and moisture.
Why They're A Risk
Form massive interconnected colonies that overwhelm a property, contaminate food, and are difficult to fully clear with DIY sprays.
Signs To Watch For
Long foraging trails along baseboards and countertops, especially picking up after rain or during hot, dry spells.
